Asbestos Awareness and Safety for Trades and Maintenance Workers

Welcome to the Introduction to Asbestos Awareness course.

Asbestos is a hazardous material that remains present in many Australian workplaces, particularly in buildings and structures constructed before the early 2000s.

Although its use has been banned, asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) can still be encountered during maintenance, renovation, demolition and other work activities. When disturbed, these materials can release microscopic fibres that pose a serious risk to health.

This course introduces the hazards associated with asbestos and the safe work practices required to prevent exposure.

You will learn how to recognise situations where asbestos may be present, understand your legal responsibilities, follow safe work procedures, and know what to do if you discover or suspect asbestos in the workplace.

By completing this course, you will gain the knowledge needed to identify asbestos risks, protect yourself and others, and contribute to a safe and compliant workplace.
